About From Past To Paper

Hello! Thank you for visiting my website. I'm Clare and I am so pleased that you are visiting my small business. 

I created From Past To Paper in 2024 whilst on maternity leave, when I decided to put my baby's nap time to good use, and start designing my genealogy pages. 

In a nutshell, the aim of FPTP is to help others organise their family history, and move their research to paper (printed or electronically) so it's documented for future generations.

I am extremely guilty of this, but so many of us have spent hundreds and hundreds (or more) of hours on our research and it's either written on odd bits of paper, in numerous files on the computer or saved directly to an online family tree platform which you most likely need a paid subscription to access the individual records. Maybe its time to get everything centralised in one place and can be enjoyed by other members of your family?

I provide:

  • Editable (and printable) templates designed to help you record and transcribe your ancestors records;
  • Family history book templates for you to edit and create a lasting record for generations to come; and
  • Tips & hints on how to delve deeper into your family history and get the most out of your research.

About Me...

I have been avidly researching my family history for over twenty-five years. I previously worked at one of the main genealogy websites and it was a true eye-opener. I was genuinely shocked about the whole process for transcribing records (speed over quality!), and it gave me an awareness when conducting my own research.

I have also worked as a genealogist taking on paid commissions. I no longer do this as for me the enjoyment is helping other people research their own family history. Nothing beats the excitement of discovering something new!

Other facts about me:

  • I have a degree in Information Management, and am a qualified data protection officer. Yes, I love data!
  • I am obsessed by true crime, especially historical true crime.
  • I love walking through graveyards and looking at old graves - I find them so peaceful, and you will probably see a lot of this on my socials.
  • My main hobby is transcribing gravestone inscriptions in the UK - this is a passion project of mine as there is so much history (and information!) on gravestones which is getting lost due to erosion. In the future I hope to have a separate website so that this is available to others.
